About Me

My name is Danika and my current position is an NHS band 3 Health Care Assistant, where I have worked for the past 10 years. This is the largest women’s hospital in Europe offering a high standard of innovative, women centred care for a diverse range of women. Supporting high and low risk women and their families as they embark on their journey into parenthood is a privileged role and one I am very grateful to be part of. Encouraging and supporting the bond between the baby and their parents, siblings and the wider family is of paramount importance.

Working here has allowed me to gain a wide range of experience and knowledge in antenatal, intrapartum and, more recently, postnatal care, which I feel is my niche. In 2015, I successfully completed my Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Health and Social Care, which allowed me to develop as a health care professional by opening up opportunities to be more hands on in providing care for the women and babies in the clinical setting. I have gained in confidence and enjoy providing support and education to women with regard to caring for their new-born baby and I have a keen interest in supporting women establishing successful breastfeeding. As the hospital delivers around 9,000 babies per year, I provide care for a diverse population with a wide range of cultural and religious beliefs. Patient care is very much tailored to individual needs and I am able to adapt care in relation to these needs. I am often involved in caring for women with social issues, mental health needs and safe guarding concerns and I always ensure that care is provided to these families in a non-judgmental manner. Additionally, I always adhere to policies in relation to data protection and patient confidentiality which is something I am passionate about. I ensure my skills and knowledge stay up to date by attending annual training for adult and neonatal basic life support, safeguarding, infant feeding, infection control to name a few.

I work alongside a multidisciplinary team which includes midwives and doctors at both junior and senior level. Having worked for the trust for some time I am able to support and encourage junior members of staff which is always appreciated and something I enjoy immensely and gain great satisfaction from. This has further enhanced my communication skills and enabled me to work well as part of a team. In addition, I feel confident using my initiative and working independently to prioritise my own workload. Throughout my years at this hospital I have gained many close friends and feel like I am a well-established member of the team. I have recently been nominated by staff and patients for Support Worker of the Year at the annual ‘Mama conference’ which has made me feel immensely proud of the work that I do. The award ceremony will be held in May 2019 and I am looking forward to attending.

As the eldest sister of 7 siblings I feel that this has given me an excellent grounding. My mum is a midwife and in support of her training and working shifts, I helped out regularly with my younger siblings in my teenage years. This allowed me to gain invaluable life skills such as preparing and cooking meals, house chores, shopping and organising activities. I took a keen interest in my siblings’ development and often helped them with homework, after school activities and social development. As a family unit we are very close and I feel that this has encouraged me to grow into a kind, caring and thoughtful person who believes good family values are of paramount importance.

My work and family life has allowed me to develop skills for life such as being able to prioritise, good time management, punctuality, being efficient and the importance of organisation. Nothing is ever too much trouble for me and I gain a lot of satisfaction through helping others. My positive upbeat attitude is something I have worked hard to develop and is a characteristic I am proud of and I believe my personality is well suited to work in care settings. I am trustworthy, enthusiastic, friendly and approachable and I feel that a career in au pairing is something I would love and be well suited to.

becoming a nanny/au pair has always been a dream of mine. I love children and believe I would fit perfect for the role. please take time to look at my CV.
